Pinawa Bridge Rehabilitation
Capitol Steel was contracted to fabricate and install cover plate and strengthen girders; repair deteriorated steel and remove and replace bridge bearings for the Pinawa Bridge on Manitoba PTH 211 which had deteriorated significantly over the years and required rehabilitation. Design and installation of temporary expansion bearings was also required.
Capitol removed 10 hinge pin girder expansion joints and converted the girders and the entire structure to a continuous girder design. A system of temporary girder supports incorporating hydraulic levelling jacks was designed, fabricated and installed. This allowed the hinged expansion joint sections of the girders to be removed and replaced with girder continuity splices, all while the bridge remained open to traffic.
